This week I focused on building the SEO, or search engine optimization, of my WordPress site. This is a field that I am genuinely interested in going into for my career, so I was thrilled to get to practice those skills on my own work! I decided to install the Rank Math SEO plugin in WordPress to help me get started. Using this plugin I was able to establish keywords for all of my posts and pages, learn more about crafting and using meta tags, and establishing a sitemap for future use.
Adding content keywords was a simple enough fix to make, although the basic page names I had established don’t quite match what I would want to have represent their content. There is a give and take in that respect that I find somewhat annoying, but time will allow me to find a balance of these things. Meta tags as a concept are easy enough to wrap my head around, but unfortunately Rank Math limits is help making them to its paying customers, which I am not. Doing it manually will take much more time, but learning how to create them myself will be useful knowledge. I’ll be pressing on in this task going into this next week!
