For last week’s project, I got some experience with wire framing a new landing page for this site! Wire framing involves sketching out and planning the layout for a new page with the overall purpose of the page in mind. Landing pages are designed to accomplish a single very specific goal, and because of this benefit immensely from an effective wire framing phase of development.
For my landing page, I began wire framing with the goal of creating a simple design expressing my personal unique selling point, or USP, with a call to action leading the user to download my resume and visit my social media handles. I considered only including one option to follow, which is typical for effective landing pages, but I felt for my purpose of making myself attractive to potential employers having both ready for viewing makes sense.
Thus my design came down to a professional-looking picture of myself, one line as a hook and another as a ‘sinker’ (so to speak), my tentative personal logo and simple buttons leading to my resume and social media accounts. When it came to removing the header and footer I did need to include some additional code to help WordPress hide them from view. It took some research to find the exact code that would accomplish this goal, but I was persistent and figured it out eventually. I’m happy with how it is laid out and hope it will help me get an employer’s attention soon!
