My efforts this week were focused on exploring the wide word of plugins and refining my various pages. I had no idea there were so many different plugin options for doing everything from protecting your site from hackers to making site block editing easier. I chose to try out a few to improve my SEO, add some custom Gutenberg blocks for page design and further protect my site from malware. I’m pretty satisfied with how everything works and look forward to testing them out even more!
So far in this journey I’ve accomplished creating a site that represents my personality and aesthetics, learning more about CSS and the technical aspect of web design, and put out a product that will ultimately benefit my future career immensely. I’ve always loved to write, so giving myself a space to research my ideas, share my opinions and look back on my learning is priceless. I still have so much I want to do with my blog and will probably cringe at what I product now down the road, but it will all be worth it.
I haven’t gotten even this far without some challenges, however. I wish I could say that WordPress came to me more intuitively, but I’ve had to put more effort than I predicted to navigate the site editor the way I’d like to. While I am content with how my site looks so far, I know there is a lot to be desired if I want to use it for anything more professional than this stage of my college education. There are so many different blocks and options for making my site do many different things, but it will be a while before I truly understand what they all can offer me and my vision for this site.
