Adventures in WordPress Part 5: Midterm Edition

I can’t believe I’m already 8 weeks into the process of designing and editing this site! I am so pleased with the color scheme, the simple yet elegant page elements and branding, and that the text gets to be the star of every page. Learning how to create, edit and even dismantle every but of this site individually through the Block Editor feature has been a strange mixture of utterly baffling and surprisingly intuitive.

Some parts of it, such as knowing what blocks perform what functions, and navigating between the admin and site editor pages has come completely naturally to me. Other things however, like how not every element can be dragged into the exact place I want it to, or how to change the layout of one page without changing things on every page, have been difficult to wrap my head around.

In the end though, the hardest thing is just figuring out exactly what your site should look like, then translating that into steps and elements that WordPress can interpret for you. Turning yourself into a webpage, complete with designs and functions that are true to your purposes isn’t something technology can figure out for you. It all comes down to your self-awareness and desire to learn, which I am working on growing little by little. Here’s to more adventures coming soon!
